The How To Start A House Cleaning Business Start-Up Guide is just what you need.

Getting your pricing right is one of the most critical aspects of running a successful cleaning business.

The prices you set not only affect your immediate income but also play a significant role in the overall sustainability and growth of your business.

Underpricing can lead to burnout as you find yourself working harder for less, while overpricing without delivering value can push potential clients away.

The right pricing helps you attract the right clients—those who appreciate the value of your service and are willing to pay for it.

7 Tips To Clean More Homes In Your Cleaning Business

October 15, 20244 min read

If you're looking to clean more homes and grow your cleaning business, you're in the right place! In this post, I'll share practical strategies to help you increase your client base, fill your schedule, and boost your income.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to take your business to the next level, these tips will guide you toward booking more homes and building a thriving, profitable cleaning business. Let’s dive in!

1. Standardize Your Cleaning Process

Create a systematic cleaning routine that you follow for every house. By having a consistent, step-by-step process, you avoid wasting time figuring out where to start or what to clean next. For example, always start with dusting high areas, then work your way down to vacuuming and mopping. This reduces decision-making fatigue and makes the process faster with every home you clean. Over time, this routine becomes second nature, allowing you to work more efficiently.

2. Have Cleaning Checklists

Provide clients with two cleaning checklist options: a standard clean and a detailed clean. This helps clarify exactly what they’re paying for, so there’s no confusion about what’s included in each service. By using a checklist, you focus only on the tasks they’ve requested, which prevents over-delivering or doing extra tasks that weren’t part of the agreement. It also makes the job easier because you know exactly what to prioritize, rather than guessing or spending extra time cleaning unnecessary areas. You can get a copy of my Checklist and other important business forms check them out here

3. Book Recurring Clients

Booking recurring clients is a game changer for your cleaning business. Weekly and biweekly clients don’t just boost your income—they also make your job easier and more efficient over time. The more frequently you clean, the more familiar you become with the space, and using your cleaning checklists allows you to clean faster while maintaining the same high-quality standards. Plus, the time you save by working more efficiently opens up your schedule, allowing you to take on more clients and make even more money.

4. Implement Time-Saving Products

Let your cleaning products do the heavy lifting for you! For example, when cleaning a bathroom, use products that are safe to leave in the tub—spray it down and let it work while you clean the rest of the bathroom. Just be sure to always read the labels and test the products to make sure they’re safe for this approach.

5. Limit Travel Time

Travel time between homes can eat into your cleaning hours, so it’s important to be strategic with scheduling. Arrange your cleaning appointments by location to minimize driving. For instance, you could designate certain days for clients in specific neighborhoods. This way, you can fit more homes into a day without wasting time on the road. If possible, try to book homes that are within walking distance of each other or plan routes that avoid peak traffic hours.

6. Work in Sections

Cleaning one section or room at a time is a proven method for staying focused and avoiding distractions. Start at one end of the house and work your way through, completing all tasks in one room before moving to the next. This prevents you from bouncing around the house, which wastes energy and time. By sticking to this method, you avoid having to backtrack to re-clean spots you missed or forgot. Plus, it’s easier to see your progress and know exactly how much work you have left.

7. Avoid Over-Servicing

One common pitfall new cleaning busines owners face is over-delivering on a job, especially when trying to impress new clients. While it’s tempting to go above and beyond, this can actually hurt your efficiency. Stick to the cleaning tasks outlined in your agreement, and only offer extra services when absolutely necessary. Otherwise, over time, clients might start expecting those extra services for free, which not only cuts into your time but also reduces the number of homes you can clean in a day.

This is where having clear policies in place is essential. Policies help set client expectations from the start, ensuring there are clear boundaries on what’s included in your services. When clients understand exactly what to expect—and what’s beyond the scope of their service—it helps avoid confusion and keeps your workload manageable. You can get a free copy of my policies below to help set those expectations and maintain a smooth, efficient business while delivering great results!
