Cleaning Business Start-Up Supplies Checklist

August 01, 20241 min read

When starting your own cleaning business, it's essential to bring your own cleaning products. Doing so helps you appear more professional.

Knowing the right products to use on different surfaces is crucial to avoid damaging your clients' belongings. Always read labels and test products if you're unsure about their use.

Many people use too many different types of cleaning supplies. Instead, keep your supplies simple. Here is a list of the basic must-have supplies to get you started. You can always add more as you go:

  • Glass gleaner

  • All-purpose cleaner

  • Bleach or bleach alternative

  • Furniture polish

  • Gloves

  • White eraser

  • Swiffer duster extension

  • Swiffer refills

  • Garbage bags

  • Retractable razor blade

  • Extension cord

  • Bucker or caddy for your supplies

  • Plastic scraper

  • Bar keepers friend or baking powder for scrub

In my 30+ years in the cleaning business, I have always used my clients' vacuums, mops, rags, and toilet scrubbers for hygiene reasons.

This approach saved me both time and money while reducing the amount of equipment I had to carry. I explain to clients that their vacuum must be in excellent working condition, as outlined in my policies.

This practice prevents the spread of germs, dander, fleas, and other contaminants from house to house. If a client has pets with fleas, using their vacuum avoids transferring fleas to other homes and my own vehicle.

Additionally, I inform clients that I am not responsible for any damage or breakage to their vacuum unless it is caused by me.

I discuss these policies with clients before booking a cleaning to ensure clarity. Clearly laid out policies are crucial for a successful business.

Since policies are crucial, I'm giving away a copy of the policies I use in my own business for FREE. Get Your Copy Here
